News from Mrs. Black
Happy Holidays…yes it is that time of the year already. We had a fantastic turnout for our Turkey Bingo. Thank you donors for providing the turkeys. A big shout out to our “Miss Betty” for making that all possible. She coordinates all the turkeys from donors which is not an easy job. WE gave away 46 turkey and 6 complete meals.
The holidays make things VERY busy for everyone. It’s not what we get; it’s what we can give and having our family and friends with us. Recently I heard that children and families REMEMBER activities and time spent with each other OVER expensive purchase. It will ultimately be the memories that bind us not our “toys”.
I vividly remember in high school my boyfriend driving my twin sister and I to basketball practice during Christmas break. There was a lot of snow on the ground. As teenagers we dressed in our shorts and T-shirts for the car ride—who needs a winter coat? We were also running late. We came half way down the back road only to have the road entirely covered with two feet of snow. My boyfriend begins to turn around in the street. I caution him, “ Be Careful” !.
My future husbands says, “ We have front wheel drive, we WON’T get stuck”. These words have lived in infamy in the family. Because we did get stuck. My sister and I trudged through a field of snow to get to practice rather than wait for Tom to get unstuck. I do not know how he got out of the snow. However this is a holiday memory that WE all remember in the family. I don’t remember what I received as gifts that Christmas, but I do recall shopping, playing “Spit”, and lots of laughing.
So as you enjoy your families and friends this holiday enjoy the time. Recall the Christmas where the tree fell over.(Yes this happened one year.) The stories become part of the family love and will long be remembered over any gift that was given.
