Tips for Parents during Red Ribbon Week

Use Red Ribbon Week as an opportunity to continue talking to your kids about drug safety. Let them know that alcohol and drug use will not be tolerated. For younger students, let them know that they should only take medicine from a trusted adult. The school nurse, a doctor, a parent, and NEVER from a stranger or another child.
Watch Natural High’s(naturalhigh.org)free celebrity drug prevention videos with your child and use their discussion questions to have a conversation with them about drugs and alcohol. Recommended for 2-5 grade.
Get to know the parents of your children’s friends.
Work together to set boundaries and monitor behavior.
DID YOU KNOW… (thinking ahead)
Children of parents who talk to their teens regularly about drugs are 42% less likely to use drugs than those who don’t, yet only a quarter of teens report having these conversations.
